Since 1992, Houston Furniture Bank has provided furniture to more than 80,000 families and individuals in the Greater Houston region, Making Empty Houses Homes. The 501 (c)3 nonprofit organization receives client referrals from more than 75 social service agencies in the Houston and surrounding areas.
Through the Adopt a Family program, supporters of Houston Furniture Bank can make personal contributions towards the independence and stability of their less advantaged community members and neighbors.
These families and individuals are transitioning to independent living while struggling with extreme poverty. Some have become impoverished due to natural disasters, such as floods or fires; for others, their access to independence has been affected by mental challenges, physical disabilities, chemical dependencies, or catastrophic health issues such as AIDS.
While some are victims of natural disasters or domestic violence, still others such as veterans, senior citizens, or single parents, have become unable to gain employment or earn adequate wages to support themselves.
On any given night, it is estimated that approximately 300,000 children in the Houston area either sleep on the floor or share a bed.
YOU CAN HELP!
How Adopt a Family Works
Adopt a Family is a program designed to allow people to directly aid a family with their furniture needs.
If you know of a family that is in need and want to help them we ask you to please fill out the contact form at the bottom of the page. We will send you a packet with all the steps needed to start the process.
However if you do not know a family but still want to help you can still help. All you need to do is click the donate button below. When we collect a total of $500 we will select the family to benefit using our range of partner agencies. Once we have benefited the family we will also send photographs of the family with their newly acquired furniture to those who contributed towards the $500.
The bar down below details the percentage of the money already collected to benefit 1 family. It will also display the number of families helped as well. Note: 1% = $5
