Communities in Schools Houston (CIS) is a campus-based Dropout Prevention program and one of Houston Furniture Bank’s (HFB) oldest furniture distribution partners. They work to provide direct social services to at-risk students in more than 100 Houston area campuses. Today’s Houston Furniture Bank (HFB) Board Spotlight features Board Member Minerva Perez. A well-known TV journalist, Minerva has been an active HFB Board Member for 10 years. Throughout her years of dedicated service to the organization, she has done everything from help coordinate the Grand Opening Celebration for the new headquarters to volunteering her time to help give out furniture in the days after Hurricane Harvey devastated the city. D.I.V.A.S. Project of the Month


Have you met the D.I.V.A.S.? D.I.V.A.S. (Designing Interiors-Volunteers at your Service) is the volunteer arm of Houston Furniture Bank (HFB). Through their efforts they help transform the homes of HFB clients from bare bones into something homey & comfortable using mostly donated and gently-used items that are recreated, repurposed and redesigned. Periodically, D.I.V.A.S. work with area non-profit agencies to improve public and private areas.
