Houston Furniture Bank has been providing essential furniture to families in need for 26 years. This year, we have launched the “No Kids on the Floor” initiative, designed to extend our existing services to more children in our city. Celebrating 26 Years of Making Empty Houses Homes On March 30, 2019, Houston Furniture Bank celebrated 26 years of Making Empty Houses Homes. Mayor Sylvester Turner presented our organization with a proclamation designating March 30, 2019 as Houston Furniture Bank Day in the city of Houston and also introduced the No Kids on the Floor initiative. This event was generously underwritten by Dickson Furniture Manufacturers and Landmark Furniture. “I didn’t do it for me, I did it for my kids.” Charlene has overcome many challenges to be where she is today. When her fiancé died suddenly two years ago, she and her four young children were left without a permanent home. The young family moved from house to house, staying with friends and in shelters in order to keep a roof over their heads.
