Established in 1912 as a family run business, Star Furniture is now owned by Berkshire Hathaway. Star Furniture is the oldest operating furniture store in the state of Texas. It is one of the earliest retail furniture business supporters of the Houston Furniture Bank (HFB). Introduced by Jodie Hoffer, HFB began receiving furniture donations from Star in the early days and has continued to receive their support for many years. Did you know that Houston Furniture Bank (HFB) recycles mattresses? During the month of May, the HFB Mattress Recycling Center received 2,060 mattresses. 1,414 of those mattresses were recycled, which resulted in 32,522 cubic feet of trash NOT ending up in the landfill. But that’s just a drop in a very large bucket – it is estimated that approximately 750,000 mattresses are discarded into Houston-area landfills annually. The Houston Furniture Bank was hit by a devastating fire Saturday morning August 8th. We lost our building and everything in it. You can assist by donating today. Community support has been amazing over the past 25 years, but the Houston Furniture Bank needs your help now. We have been furnishing 150 homes and apartments monthly working with over 80 local non-profits and agencies, supporting families in need that receive housing assistance, but do not receive furniture.
