The second-annual “No Kids on the Floor” Bedding Drive was a great success! Heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated! Individual Houstonians, furniture retailers, interior designers came together to help children in need during the holiday season. Altogether, new bedding for 400 children was donated! During December, many individuals and businesses purchased bedding online which arrived daily at Houston Furniture Bank! Others visited participating retailers and partners to drop off their donations of cozy bedding. This week, 50 Houston-area children received a special delivery of a new bed! For the second year in a row, Houston Furniture Bank and Spindletop Charities have come together to provide beds to kids around the holiday season as a part of Houston Furniture Bank’s “No Kids On The Floor” initiative, a program that provides new beds to kids, thanks to the financial support of the community. Terrence McDonald helped Houston Furniture Bank found our Mattress Recycling Center in 2012. For 35 years, McDonald has been the Executive Director of the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Lane County. Terry’s road to entrepreneurial leadership began with a modest tool employed by many nonprofits- the retail thrift store- and has expanded to encompass a small empire of reuse, recycling and upcycling businesses. The Ortiz Family is starting over after Hurricane Harvey, a fire, and an eviction caused by the coronavirus. Johni and Jeremiah Ortiz have been together for seventeen years, and married since 2007. Together, they have five children, ages 12, 10, 9, 5 and 1.
