What are we making?

We are making masks. After much research and development, the design we are using has been approved by healthcare professionals. It is made of 100% cotton material and includes pockets for a filter and a wire for contouring at the nose.

Who benefits?

As a part of the Sewn Good Collective, so far Houston Furniture Bank has helped provide masks to Houston Food Bank, Fire Chief Pena, SNAP and qualified health centers around Houston. We are working daily to connect those who are working to protect our community with much-needed masks. If you are a public-facing non-profit in need of masks, please let us know your need here.

We need your support!

Houston Furniture Bank is a nonprofit organization. We are proud to provide gainful, meaningful employment opportunities to our staff. Our goal is to raise the funds to cover the cost of labor of our sewists which has now been diverted to this project. Our goal is to raise $6,000 to cover six weeks of wages for our team. As of April 15th, we have raised $2,000.

Who are our partners?

COVID-19 has impacted all of us and it will take all of us to rise above it. That is why we have helped found Sewn Goods: A Houston Collaborative — an initiative that brings together small manufacturers, local sewers and artisans to promote employment while also creating and selling cloth face masks. Together, we can all stay safe. Learn more at

What is a frontline mask?

The masks that we are producing are not medical grade. They will be used by medical professionals as a last resort. These masks can be used as a cover for N95 masks to help extend their life and worn by frontline workers who need additional protection. Each mask included a pocket where a filter can be inserted. Masks can be washed and the filter exchanged.

These difficult times demand action. We are proud to be doing our part to protect the workers who are on the front lines of this crisis. Thank you for your support!
