Volunteering
Volunteers are the backbone of Houston Furniture Bank. We have many volunteer opportunities for both individuals and groups who are interested in giving their time to help “Make Empty Houses Homes” and build a sustainable future. Individuals & Groups can volunteer with us Tuesday through Saturday, between the hours of 8am-4pm.
In addition to the volunteer opportunities offered at our site, Houston Furniture Bank welcomes your organization to host a furniture or bedding donation drive. Donation drives are a great way to engage your community while also helping ensure Houston Furniture Bank stays stocked with essential items for the families we serve. Don’t dump, Donate today!
Outlet Center
It is estimated that 300,000 children sleep on the floor in Houston every night. Help Houston become a city where no child sleeps on the floor by becoming a Distribution Center Helper. This is an opportunity for compassionate volunteers who wish to serve the community through hands-on impact. Volunteers will assist and guide clients during 30 minute Distribution Center appointments, helping families select essential furniture for their home.
Warehouse
Houston Furniture Bank receives furniture donations from Houstonians everyday! Last year, we gave away over 9,500 pieces of furniture to 1,145 families in need. All of those donated furniture pieces are stored in our 75,000 sq. ft. warehouse. We need dedicated volunteers who can help keep our warehouse organized, clean and accessible so we can efficiently and effectively serve more families.
Mattress Recycling
Did you know over 750,000 mattresses end up in Houston-area landfills every year? Just last year, Houston Furniture Bank saved over 27,000 mattresses from our landfills by refurbishing and recycling Houstonians old mattresses! Help us build a sustainable future by working in our mattress recycling department. We have a long way to go before we eliminate Houston’s overwhelming mattress waste, which is why we are calling on YOU for help!
Furniture Clinic
Are you skilled at carpentry, metal work or upholstery? Do you want to help Houston Furniture Bank help families in need while keeping quality furniture items out of our landfills? We need you! Houston Furniture Bank regularly receives items in need of repair that still have a lot of good to do! Please send an email with the subject heading “Furniture Clinic” to volunteer@
Groups Volunteering
Large Group Opportunities
HFB depends on donations to provide families in need with furniture. It is not uncommon for certain items in our inventory to run low during the month, leaving our clients without some of the furniture they need. Your group can help ensure that we never run out of these essential items by participating in our Furniture Building Program. Groups with more than 25 volunteers can donate $50 per person to cover the cost of furniture building supplies. The furniture your group builds will be given to the families we serve.
Small Group Opportunities
With small staff, HFB relies on volunteer groups to help maintain our day-to-day operations. Small groups of 25 volunteers or less can assist by organizing our warehouse and recycling mattresses. Book your volunteer day of service today! Monday-Saturday, 8am-4pm.
Houston Furniture Bank works with schools, churches, companies, and civic groups to create meaningful impact through your day of service.
Organize a Donation Drive
Organize a furniture/bedding drive or fundraiser in your neighborhood, your place of worship, a club or organization, school, or place of business. We’ll get you started and provide you with plenty of support. Your efforts will provide priceless support to many families.
