This month’s Houston Furniture Bank (HFB) Board Spotlight features Board Member Pat Duffy. Although Pat hasn’t been a member of the Board for long, he has been a part of the organization during a pivotal year in the history of the nonprofit. In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, HFB has risen to meet the challenge of an unexpected need from the community. Pat’s support has been essential to HFB’s response during this period of recovery.
Pat was recruited into the organization by HFB Executive Director Oli Mohammed. Pat and Oli had an opportunity to spend time together at the Colliers golf tournament two years in a row. In addition, Colliers International Houston selected HFB as the recipient of its annual charity.
He is President of Colliers International Houston, Inc., a full service commercial real estate services firm. Pat also works with Kids Meals, Step Onward and Change Happens. In addition to spending time with his family, he enjoys live music venues and Houston’s great restaurant scene.
Pat became involved because of HFB’s mission and the focus on attempting to become a self-sufficient nonprofit. “We have a clear mission and a goal of becoming self-sufficient – a charity that can fill multiple missions of helping families get homes that work, put the “unemployable” to work and reduce the waste of mattresses filling the landfills – all of which supports our core mission,” said Pat. “In a city like Houston, there are too many families that receive housing support but do not have the ability to furnish the house and make it truly livable – The furniture bank closes that gap and helps the underprivileged turn houses and apartments into homes.”
Thank you, Pat, for being part of the organization!
