Haute couture hits Houston at the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Houston City Center’s 7th Annual Product Runway Fashion Show scheduled for Friday, April 17 at 8 p.m. at Bayou Music Center. Funds raised by the evening of inspired designs benefit the Houston Furniture Bank, a non-profit providing furniture for families in need via 70 agencies in surrounding counties, plus Texas Association of Interior Design and the IIDA Education Foundation.
Product Runway, influenced by the concept of the hit realty TV show Project Runway, is one of a handful of fashion shows of its kind in the country. Product Runway pits teams of interior design and architecture professionals and interior design students in an avant-garde couture competition by designing and constructing handmade garments out of standard architectural finish materials such as glass, tile, carpet and wood. The 2015 Product Runway theme is “True Colours” and promises to showcase eye-popping creations displayed during a fashion performance on a nearly 150-foot runway.
Each of the 21 competing teams will be assigned one hard material and one soft material material, which must collectively make up 80 percent of the final garment. Each team is also assigned a colour paired with an emotion. Their creations are to reflect an abstract interpretation of the assigned emotion, while also being a majority of their assigned colour. Final entries, also modeled by a member of the design team, must be designed and constructed completely by the team and may cost no more than $700 in combined hard and soft materials and $150 in supplemental materials such as closures, thread and accessories. Along with Best of Show, Second and Third Place, nine additional categories will be awarded by a judging panel at the end of the show.
Open to the public, general admission tickets are $40 in advance, $50 day of show at the box office, with student tickets $25 with a valid ID. Ticket sales go live Friday, March 7, 2015, and may be purchased in advance at the Bayou Music Center box office, any Walmart electronics location, Fiesta stores, Ticketmaster outlets or online at http://
