Spindletop Charities Donates 89 Bed Sets to Local Children Through HFB’s ‘No Kids on the Floor’ Initiative

Just in time for the holidays, Houston Furniture Bank has delivered 89 bed sets to families in need across the Greater Houston region. This donation was made possible through a gift to the Houston Furniture Bank’s ‘No Kids on The Floor’ initiative from Spindletop Charities, Inc. The initiative works to ensure that every child in Houston has a comfortable place to sleep. In total, 89 children ranging from pre-kindergarten to 9th grade received a new mattress, foundation, frame, and bedding one week ahead of Christmas Day. Today, Houston Furniture Bank’s Furniture Distribution Center is freshly-stocked with dressers, tables, couches, sleeper-sofas and chairs, thanks to a generous donation from Hampton Inn at Hobby Airport, operated by Aimbridge Hospitality. Large-scale donations like this one only happen a few times a year for Houston Furniture Bank and they are vital to providing assistance to as many families as possible. Executive Director Oli Mohammed accepted the IIDA Leadership Award of Excellence in recognition of Houston Furniture Bank’s work providing furniture assistance to families in need. This story includes descriptions of flooding experienced during Hurricane Harvey. Like so many Houstonians, Esmeralda has a Hurricane Harvey story to tell. Two years ago, she was living right by Halls Bayou, at Parker by highway 59 in a four bedroom home with her daughter, a student at HCC, and her partner.
