Celebrating Community and Impact at the 2025 No Kids On The Floor Gala

On Thursday, May 8, more than 400 guests filled River Oaks Country Club for the 2025 No Kids On The Floor Gala, a powerful and joyful evening benefiting The Furniture Bank. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters and sponsors, we raised a record-breaking $300,000—all in support of our mission to ensure that no child in Houston sleeps on the floor. The evening, chaired by longtime advocates and board members Francie and Mike Willis, was filled with inspiration, laughter, music, and moving stories that reminded us why this work matters.

“For 33 years, The Furniture Bank has been serving families affected by poverty, homelessness, domestic violence, mental and physical health concerns, and disasters,” said Mike Willis. “Since launching the No Kids on the Floor initiative in 2018, we’ve provided beds to more than 4,000 children in need.”

Guests enjoyed musical entertainment from nationally acclaimed pianist Doug Montgomery, an energetic live auction led by Johnny Bravo, and a touching video tribute, A Place to Dream, featuring the work of our Executive Director, Oli Mohammed, and voices from community leaders calling for action.

We were honored to recognize two outstanding champions of our cause:

Legacy Honoree: Ralph Marek, posthumously celebrated as a Guardian Angel of The Furniture Bank. The award was accepted on behalf of the Marek Family by his son, Stan Marek. Jodie Hoffer Community Service Award Recipient: Youval Meicler of Texas Mattress Makers, a longtime supporter introduced to our work by the late Jodie Hoffer himself, for whom the new award was named.
The impact of the evening was perhaps best captured by the words of a young speaker—the eldest child from a family served by The Furniture Bank—who shared how having a bed brought a sense of security and emotional comfort to their life. We’re deeply grateful to:
  • Our emcee, Linda Lorelle
  • The entire host committee and board
  • Our gala donors and auction contributors
  • Everyone who gave generously during the appeal
  • And each of our guests who showed up and said, “Yes, this matters.”
We were also honored to receive official recognition from the City of Houston. Council Member Joaquin Martinez attended the gala and presented The Furniture Bank with a City of Houston Proclamation. He did so on behalf of Mayor John Whitmire, recognizing the occasion and our ongoing efforts to ensure that no child in our city sleeps on the floor. Whether you bid in the silent auction, gave to the giving tree, or simply attended with a heart for our mission, you made a difference. To our honorees, sponsors, volunteers, and community: thank you. Together, we are furnishing hope— and building a city where every child has a place to dream.

About No Kids on the Floor

Every night, thousands of children in Houston sleep on cold, hard floors. The Furniture Bank’s No Kids on the Floor initiative exists to change that. We work to ensure that every child has a bed of their own—a safe, comfortable place to rest and dream. With help from our supporters and like-minded organizations, we provide mattresses and essential furniture to families in need across the Houston area. Our city faces vast disparities. We believe that a child’s ability to grow and thrive should never be limited by their sleeping conditions. A bed isn’t just a piece of furniture—it’s emotional security, physical well-being, and dignity. Learn more
