Today’s Houston Furniture Bank (HFB) Board Spotlight features Board Member Minerva Perez. A well-known TV journalist, Minerva has been an active HFB Board Member for 10 years. Throughout her years of dedicated service to the organization, she has done everything from help coordinate the Grand Opening Celebration for the new headquarters to volunteering her time to help give out furniture in the days after Hurricane Harvey devastated the city.
Minerva was recruited to HFB by her friend and neighbor Janet Ely. Although her initial interest was due to her friend’s invitation, Minerva has remained with HFB because of the mission to help the disadvantaged citizens of the greater Houston area. One of her fondest memories of HFB is painting the old HFB building with other HFB Board Members and the team effort it produced.
In addition to being an award-winning TV Journalist, Minerva is an author and president/CEO of her production company (Minerva Pérez Media, LLC) as well as Executive Producer of the award-winning syndicated talk show “Latina Voices: Smart Talk.” Recently, she was named to the Board of the National Hispanic Media Coalition. Minerva also supports the Houston Association of Hispanic Media Professionals (HAHMP), Susan G. Komen’s Race for the Cure, Texas Executive Women, and the Houston Women’s Resource organization.
Minerva believes that HFB is poised to expand to help many more people in the coming years and is glad to be part of that expansion. “Houston Furniture Bank is an organization that helps to keep children from sleeping on the floor in one of the richest cities in the world. And one that opened its doors to help Harvey victims,” she said.
Thank you, Minerva, for continued support in Making Empty Houses Homes!
