Celebrating 26 Years of Making Empty Houses Homes
On March 30, 2019, Houston Furniture Bank celebrated 26 years of Making Empty Houses Homes. Mayor Sylvester Turner presented our organization with a proclamation designating March 30, 2019 as Houston Furniture Bank Day in the city of Houston and also introduced the No Kids on the Floor initiative. This event was generously underwritten by Dickson Furniture Manufacturers and Landmark Furniture.
The program was led by Natasha Geigel of Fox 26 and included remarks from Daniel Vasquez on behalf of Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia. Rene Solis of BakerRipley and Jennifer Herrera of Northwest Assistance Ministries pledged their support for the No Kids on the Floor initiative. Romie de Leon, once a recipient of furniture assistance from Houston Furniture Bank and now a Care Coordinator at Bridge of Troubled waters, spoke movingly about the impact that Houston Furniture Bank has had on her life and the lives of the families she now serves.
Guests included Houston Furniture Bank employees and Board Members, partner agency representatives, recipients of furniture assistance, community leaders, donors, volunteers and friends. Support was also provided by HRSS CPA, Perry Homes, Michelle and Tom King, Minerva Perez Media and Vyva Event Design and John Acevedo.
Thanks to all who made this event possible!
